ISO 14001 Lead Auditor — Environmental Management Systems

IRCA-certified lead auditor training for environmental management systems — the full audit process against ISO 14001, conducted to ISO 19011 guidelines.

The programme

An environmental management system that has never faced a competent audit is a set of assumptions, not assurance. This IRCA-certified programme teaches the principles and practices of effective EMS audits in accordance with ISO 14001 and ISO 19011, the guidelines for auditing management systems. Experienced tutors guide the cohort through the entire audit process, from initiating the audit through to conducting audit follow-up, with skills developed through a balance of classroom tutorials, practical role-playing, group workshops and open forum discussion. The course meets the training requirements for IRCA EMS auditor certification, positioning participants to plan, conduct, report and follow up audits that establish conformity — or expose its absence.

What you will do

Make the case for an EMS — the business and societal benefits of improving environmental performance.
Plan an EMS audit in accordance with ISO 19011, and ISO 17021 where appropriate.
Conduct the audit to establish conformity — or otherwise — with ISO 14001.
Report findings and run audit follow-up that closes non-conformities rather than filing them.
Perform the auditor’s role end to end, from initiation through follow-up.
Meet the training requirements for IRCA EMS auditor certification.

  • Prospective certified auditors and lead auditors building an EMS auditing career
  • Environment engineers, officers, executives and managers
  • EMS management representatives and existing internal auditors

Cohorts bring together board members, executives and the rising leaders behind them — kept deliberately small, so every seat is a peer’s.
