Contract Administration & Claims Management

Claims are not events — they are accumulations — and the party with the better records almost always wins.

The programme

Most contract value is won or lost between signature and close-out, in the unglamorous work of administration: notices served on time, variations priced before the work is done, records kept as if the dispute were certain. This programme trains that work — the administration system for obligations, notices and correspondence; variation and change control that protects both scope and relationship; delay and disruption understood well enough to prove or defend; and claims themselves: prepared with evidence and causation, quantified credibly, negotiated before they harden into disputes. FIDIC forms provide the working example alongside bespoke contracts.

What you will do

Run contract administration: obligations, notices, correspondence — on time
Control variations: priced, authorised and documented before the work
Keep records that win: daily, contemporaneous, attributable
Prepare, quantify and negotiate claims before they harden

Who attends

Contract administrators and managers; project managers and engineers; quantity surveyors and commercial teams; employers’ and contractors’ representatives.

Cohorts bring together board members, executives and the rising leaders behind them — kept deliberately small, so every seat is a peer’s.

Programme agenda

Built for the decisions no textbook prepares you for

I.The administration system
  • The obligations register: who owes what, by when, evidenced how
  • Notices: the time bars that extinguish rights
  • Records: the daily discipline that decides disputes years later
II.Change and delay
  • Variations: instruction, pricing, authorisation — in that order
  • Delay analysis: methods, honesty and concurrent delay
  • Disruption: the hardest claim, built from productivity records
III.Claims and resolution
  • The claim file: narrative, causation, quantum — credible throughout
  • FIDIC claims machinery and the engineer’s determinations
  • Negotiation, adjudication, arbitration: escalating deliberately

Frequently asked

Does the course use FIDIC contracts?

Yes — FIDIC forms provide the working example throughout, including the FIDIC claims machinery and the engineer’s determinations, alongside bespoke contracts. The programme is professional training in contract administration, not legal advice on specific disputes.

What does the programme teach about claims?

That claims are accumulations, not events — and that the party with the better records almost always wins. It trains the claim file built on narrative, causation and quantum, delay analysis including concurrent delay, disruption claims built from productivity records, and negotiation before positions harden into disputes.

Who should attend the contract administration course?

Contract administrators and managers, project managers and engineers, quantity surveyors and commercial teams, and employers’ and contractors’ representatives — both sides of the contract benefit from the same disciplines of notices, variations and records.

Can it be delivered in-house for a project team?

Yes — in-house editions are available and can be tailored to the contract forms your projects actually use. BIZENIUS delivers in English and French; sessions run on a rolling calendar with dates confirmed on request, and fees are quoted on enquiry.
