The NEBOSH HSE Certificate in Process Safety Management
Occupational safety counts the injuries that happened; process safety prevents the one that must never happen. This qualification exists because loss of containment is managed or it is suffered — there is no third state.

Catastrophic process accidents rarely begin with recklessness; they begin with loss of containment nobody was managing. The NEBOSH HSE Certificate in Process Safety Management — developed jointly by NEBOSH and Great Britain’s health and safety regulator, the HSE — is the specialist qualification for those who carry safety responsibility in high-hazard process industries. The syllabus works through its four elements as one discipline: process safety leadership, including management of change and worker engagement; management of process risk — permit systems, asset management, contractor control; process safety hazard control, from safe start-up and shutdown to reaction hazards and bulk storage; and fire and explosion protection, dust explosions included. Assessment is a 90-minute online examination of 40 questions, part case-study-based, taken at the end of the taught programme. Cohorts run across the Middle East and Africa — Dubai, Dammam, Doha, Muscat, Lagos — and live online, in English and French.
