Treasury Risk Management

The treasury function as risk manager — market and liquidity risk, hedging in practice, FTP and the capital link, for corporate and bank treasuries alike.

The programme

The credit crunch showed what happens when treasuries misjudge behavioural risk: assumptions failed, and in some cases the organisation failed with them. This course builds a working understanding of the treasury function’s role in managing risk — from the perspective of both corporate and bank treasuries — and gives non-treasury business managers insight into how treasury supports business development. The programme develops the ability to recognise and assess the financial risks arising from business activity, the risk management framework required to control them, and the practical issues met in execution: hedging strategy and instruments, liquidity measurement, the link between risk and capital, and Funds Transfer Pricing.

What you will do

Assess the market risk arising from business activity and set hedging strategy on the key issues that matter.
Deploy the most widely used hedging products — and manage the risks those tools themselves create.
Measure liquidity risk and build strategies for managing it across corporate and bank treasuries.
Connect risk to capital management, so treasury decisions carry through to the balance sheet.
Apply Funds Transfer Pricing principles to risk management and the appropriate pricing of customer products.
Model cash-flow risks from FX and interest-rate moves through interactive case-study workshops.
Manage fair-value risk in investment portfolios, including hedge-counterparty and obligor credit risk.

Frequently asked

Do I need a treasury background to attend this course?

No. The programme builds a working understanding of the treasury function from both corporate and bank perspectives, and is explicitly designed to give non-treasury business managers insight into how treasury supports business development. Corporate treasury and finance executives, money market managers, FX executives, relationship officers, accountants and auditors all attend.

What does the course cover on hedging, liquidity and FTP?

It works through hedging strategy and the most widely used hedging products — including the risks those tools themselves create — liquidity measurement and management, the link between risk and capital, and Funds Transfer Pricing applied to risk management and customer product pricing. Interactive case-study workshops model cash-flow risks from FX and interest-rate moves and fair-value risk in investment portfolios.
