Basic Fire Fighting for Oil and Gas Masterclass

Fire prevention and first response for container freight stations, ICDs, ports, terminals and warehouses — alarms, appliances, extinguishing agents and MSDS-based procedures.

The programme

A fire in a container freight station or terminal escalates in minutes, and the difference between a contained incident and a catastrophe is whether the people nearest it know exactly what to do. This programme covers fire fighting fundamentals for CFS, ICD, port, terminal and warehouse environments: the fire triangle and prevention principles, the flammable materials these facilities actually hold, and the vigilance they demand. The cohort works through alarm systems, fire plans, muster lists, drills and communication; the classification of fires and extinguishing agents; hoses, nozzles, portable extinguishers, fire blankets and breathing apparatus; and MSDS-specific emergency response procedures covering both fire and spillage.

What you will do

Apply the fire triangle and prevention principles to the flammable materials found in CFS, ICDs, ports, terminals and warehouses.
Execute the fire plan — general alarm, muster list, communication, drills and safety procedures.
Classify fires and select the right extinguishing agent for each class.
Operate fire hoses, nozzles, portable extinguishers and the fireman’s outfit with confidence.
Take the precautions fixed fire-extinguishing installations demand before and during use.
Read the MSDS and follow its specific emergency response procedures for fire and spillage.

Who attends

  • Terminal, warehouse and CFS operations managers
  • Safety officers and fire wardens
  • Supervisors and shift leaders in ports and ICDs
  • Emergency response team members

Cohorts bring together board members, executives and the rising leaders behind them — kept deliberately small, so every seat is a peer’s.

Frequently asked

Which facilities is the basic fire fighting course designed for?

Container freight stations, inland container depots (ICDs), ports, terminals and warehouses — environments where a fire escalates in minutes and the difference between a contained incident and a catastrophe is whether the people nearest it know exactly what to do. The programme addresses the flammable materials these facilities actually hold.

What equipment and procedures does the training cover?

The classification of fires and their extinguishing agents; hoses, nozzles, portable extinguishers, fire blankets and breathing apparatus; alarm systems, fire plans, muster lists, drills and communication; and MSDS-specific emergency response procedures covering both fire and spillage for specific cargoes.
