A fire in a container freight station or terminal escalates in minutes, and the difference between a contained incident and a catastrophe is whether the people nearest it know exactly what to do. This programme covers fire fighting fundamentals for CFS, ICD, port, terminal and warehouse environments: the fire triangle and prevention principles, the flammable materials these facilities actually hold, and the vigilance they demand. The cohort works through alarm systems, fire plans, muster lists, drills and communication; the classification of fires and extinguishing agents; hoses, nozzles, portable extinguishers, fire blankets and breathing apparatus; and MSDS-specific emergency response procedures covering both fire and spillage.
