Dangerous goods move safely at sea only when everyone in the chain can actually use the IMDG Code — not merely point to it on a shelf. This masterclass builds general awareness and working familiarity with the IMDG Code 2016 edition, incorporating amendment 38–16: classification, packing, handling, carriage, stowage and segregation of the various classes of dangerous goods. The cohort works through the surrounding regulatory architecture — SOLAS, MARPOL, ISPS and the CSC Convention, plus local and national requirements — the legal responsibilities of shippers including ADR in the EU, cargo transport units with their marking, labelling and placarding, and the security provisions the Code demands.

Frequently asked

Does the course cover shipper responsibilities beyond the IMDG Code?
Yes. The cohort works through the surrounding regulatory architecture — SOLAS, MARPOL, ISPS and the CSC Convention, plus local and national requirements — the legal responsibilities of shippers including ADR in the EU, and the marking, labelling and placarding of cargo transport units. This is professional training, not legal advice.
