Most workplace incidents are non-complex — and most go uninvestigated, so the same failures recur. NEBOSH and Great Britain’s health and safety regulator, the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), jointly developed this one-day qualification to show how non-complex incidents can be investigated effectively, so organisations learn lessons and make improvements instead of repeating them. The cohort works through the moral, legal and financial arguments for investigation, the human and organisational factors that contribute to incidents, the investigation process itself, and positive interview strategies — including the barriers that make interviews fail. Staff finish able to carry out an unaided investigation of a non-complex incident.

Frequently asked
Who developed the incident investigation qualification?
NEBOSH developed the qualification jointly with Great Britain’s health and safety regulator, the Health and Safety Executive (HSE). The one-day programme shows how non-complex incidents can be investigated effectively, so organisations learn lessons and make improvements instead of repeating the same failures.
What will participants be able to do after the course?
Staff finish able to carry out an unaided investigation of a non-complex incident: gathering evidence, conducting witness interviews with positive strategies, tracing the human and organisational factors involved, and producing an action plan that prevents recurrence rather than assigning blame. They can also contribute to team investigations of large-scale incidents.
Who should attend the one-day programme?
It suits supervisors and line managers who respond to incidents first, HSE officers and advisors, safety committee members and worker representatives, and anyone assigned incident investigation duties. No prior investigation experience is assumed — the programme covers the process step by step, from evidence to action plan.
Is the course available in French or in-house?
Yes. BIZENIUS delivers in English and French, and an in-house edition can be tailored to your organisation and the incidents your teams actually face. Sessions run on a rolling calendar with dates confirmed on request; fees and quotations are provided on enquiry.
