NEBOSH HSE Introduction to Incident Investigation Masterclass

The one-day NEBOSH–HSE qualification that equips staff to investigate non-complex incidents unaided — evidence, interviews and action plans that prevent recurrence.

The programme

Most workplace incidents are non-complex — and most go uninvestigated, so the same failures recur. NEBOSH and Great Britain’s health and safety regulator, the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), jointly developed this one-day qualification to show how non-complex incidents can be investigated effectively, so organisations learn lessons and make improvements instead of repeating them. The cohort works through the moral, legal and financial arguments for investigation, the human and organisational factors that contribute to incidents, the investigation process itself, and positive interview strategies — including the barriers that make interviews fail. Staff finish able to carry out an unaided investigation of a non-complex incident.

What you will do

Investigate simple incidents independently, without waiting for external specialists.
Gather evidence, including conducting witness interviews with positive strategies.
Trace the human and organisational factors that contributed to the incident.
Produce an action plan that prevents recurrence rather than assigning blame.
Contribute to team investigations for large-scale incidents.
Make the moral, legal and financial case for investigation — and lift the safety culture in doing so.

Who attends

  • Supervisors and line managers who respond to incidents first
  • HSE officers and advisors
  • Safety committee members and worker representatives
  • Anyone assigned incident investigation duties

Cohorts bring together board members, executives and the rising leaders behind them — kept deliberately small, so every seat is a peer’s.
