The programme

The hardest analytical problems refuse to stay inside one technique — and laboratories that reach for the same instrument every time solve only the problems that instrument can see. This masterclass takes a practical approach to method problems and technical problems that may require multiple technologies. It covers proper sampling procedures and most of the analytical and physical measurement tools available for problem solving: separation methods, classical and instrumental techniques, spectroscopy, microscopy, chromatography and surface analysis. The programme also works through the computer procedures that matter in analysing the data — from LIMS and record keeping to multivariate analysis — closing with dedicated problem-solving sessions on realistic cases.

Define the analytical problem precisely before choosing a technology to attack it with.
Design sampling and record-keeping procedures that protect the validity of everything downstream.
Select among qualitative and quantitative techniques — spectroscopy, microscopy, chromatography, surface analysis.
Apply bulk classical methods and colligative physical properties, including density and TDS, where instruments are overkill.
Analyse the data with the right computer procedures, from LIMS to multivariate analysis.
Work multi-technology problems end to end in structured problem-solving sessions.

Do the programmes cover the energy transition as well as conventional operations?

Both. The curriculum spans oil and gas operations, drilling project and risk management, ESG, and the global energy transition — including how conventional operators finance and sequence the shift.
