Recovery and resolution plans that stood up to the supervisor — twice

Two African banks

“A recovery plan is not a document. It is an argument the board must win under stress.”

The record shows

The dossier

The brief

Resolution regimes written for global banks after 2008 have reached African jurisdictions — and boards are discovering that a Bank Recovery and Resolution Plan is not a document you buy, it is a case you must be able to argue: which options restore capital and liquidity under real stress, how fast they execute, and who owns each trigger. A Central African bank had a plan that needed to survive supervisory presentation; a second African bank needed to build its plan — and the capability behind it — largely from the ground up.

The work

For the Central African bank, BIZENIUS reviewed the existing plan line by line, strengthened the recovery options and their financial logic, and worked with the team on the presentation itself — the plan went in front of the supervisor fully compliant. For the second bank, we trained the team on the discipline first, then built and improved the plan alongside them.

What stands

Two institutions now hold recovery and resolution plans their boards can defend — one presented to the supervisor fully compliant, one built with the team that maintains it. Both survive the only test that matters for a BRRP: supervisory scrutiny.
