What we doAdvisory & ConsultancyBalance-Sheet Management — ALCO, ALM & FTP
A balance sheet managed by design, not by accumulation.
Every bank has an ALCO; fewer have balance-sheet management. The committee reviews packs it cannot act on, the ALM framework watches risk without steering it, and without funds transfer pricing no desk knows the true economics of what it books — so the balance sheet becomes the sum of accidents. BIZENIUS builds the discipline as one system: an ALCO that decides, ALM that manages both sides, and an FTP mechanism that prices funding truthfully desk by desk.
Where this begins
The symptoms that bring balance sheets to us.
ALCO reviews; nobody decides
Ninety minutes of reporting, zero decisions minuted. The committee that should steer the balance sheet has become its audience.
Growth without economics
Lending grows, deposits are gathered, margins thin — and no one can show which businesses create value once funding is priced honestly. Without FTP, profitable and unprofitable look identical.
Two risks, managed apart
Interest-rate risk sits in one report, liquidity in another, pricing decisions in neither. The balance sheet is one object; its management is not.
What we deliver
One discipline, three working parts.
A balance-sheet engagement can take the whole system or the piece that hurts most — ALCO effectiveness, the ALM framework, or FTP implementation. Built together, they compound.
The ALCO framework
Mandate, membership, decision rights and a pack redesigned around choices — the committee leaves each meeting having steered something.
The ALM framework
Interest-rate and liquidity risk managed as one balance-sheet question — positions, limits and strategies that connect to pricing and funding plans.
FTP policy & methodology
Curve construction, term-liquidity premia and behavioural adjustments — a methodology your size of institution can run, documented for the desks it will price.
FTP implementation
The mechanism in production: rates flowing to products, results explained to the businesses being measured, and the governance that keeps it honest.
Management by economics
Profitability views by desk and product on truthful funding costs — the evidence base for the growth, pricing and mix decisions ALCO exists to make.
How the engagement runs
Diagnose. Design. Build. Embed.
Diagnose
ALCO effectiveness, ALM coverage and pricing truth, read from your packs, minutes and margins.
Design
The target discipline — committee, framework and FTP methodology sized to your institution, not a G-SIB template.
Build
With treasury, finance and the business lines — policies, curves and packs produced together, tested on live positions.
Embed
Desks trained on the mechanism that measures them, ALCO run twice with our review — then it is yours.
Perimeter and fee are fixed at the diagnostic — whole system or single component, stated plainly.
Proof
Judged by what changes.
In force
FTP policies and procedures implemented across the balance sheet — treasury and finance teams trained to run the mechanism they built

Asked before engaging
The questions treasurers and CFOs put to us first.
Can we take FTP alone, without the full framework?
Yes — FTP implementation is the most requested single component, and the Central African mandate in our record was exactly that. The diagnostic will tell you honestly whether your ALCO and ALM foundations can carry it, because FTP built on a committee that does not decide changes numbers, not behaviour.
Will the business lines accept being measured this way?
Only if the mechanism is explained before it measures them — which is why implementation includes the desks, not just treasury. FTP that arrives as a surprise is fought; FTP that arrives as arithmetic the desk heads have walked through is used. We have done this the second way.
How long does implementation take?
Fixed at the diagnostic. FTP alone typically spans one to two quarters from methodology to rates in production; ALCO and ALM components run in parallel where taken together.
Who does the work?
Former treasurers and heads of ALM who have run the committees and mechanisms they build — the same bench that teaches our ALM and FTP masterclasses.
What do you need from us?
Funding and position data, current ALCO packs and minutes, product economics as measured today, and access to the desk heads FTP will price. Listed in full at the diagnostic.

The ask
Request a confidential balance-sheet review.
A former treasurer reads your ALCO pack, ALM framework and pricing truth the way an incoming CFO would — and tells you privately where the balance sheet is being accumulated rather than managed.
Confidential by default; under NDA on request. A senior practitioner responds within two working days.
