The programme
Credit is the core engine of every bank’s balance sheet and its most persistent source of risk. Institutions rarely fail from a single bad loan; they fail from the slow build-up of weak lending decisions, late warning, poor recovery discipline and adversarial borrower relationships. This two-day advanced credit risk masterclass connects the whole lending lifecycle in one programme: cash-flow-based origination for corporate, SME, agricultural and microfinance lending; credit risk models and IFRS 9 expected credit loss; retail and payroll-based lending; NPL management and loan recovery, including behavioural negotiation with distressed borrowers; collateral management and legal enforcement; and digital lending, alternative-data credit scoring and ESG risk in credit. Lending, risk, legal and recovery professionals work from one shared credit language, so problems are seen earlier and handled more consistently from origination to recovery. Delivered in English and French in Dubai, London and across the Middle East, Africa, Asia and Europe — and live online.

Frequently asked
How is this different from a credit risk management or NPL course?
Most credit courses cover one stage of the lifecycle — origination, IFRS 9 provisioning or NPL recovery. This masterclass connects all of them in one programme, from cash-flow-based lending decisions and credit risk models through retail and payroll-based credit, NPL management, behavioural negotiation, collateral and legal enforcement, to digital lending and ESG risk in credit. The aim is a shared credit language across the lending, risk, legal and recovery teams who usually see only their own part of a loan’s life.
Can nine modules really be covered in two days?
Yes, at a practitioner level. The two days connect the stages of the credit lifecycle and the decisions made at each one, rather than going deep into the technical detail of any single topic. Participants who need that depth — for example IFRS 9 ECL models or NPL workout — can follow on with a specialist BIZENIUS course, and an in-house edition can be extended to give more time to the modules that matter most to your institution.
Does it cover digital lending, alternative-data credit scoring and ESG?
Yes. One module covers digital credit scoring, alternative data such as mobile money and utility payments, and managing credit risk in digital and fintech-partnered lending channels. Another covers ESG risk assessment frameworks and how environmental, social and governance factors influence credit structuring, approval and portfolio monitoring.
Who should attend, and is it suitable for microfinance and development finance institutions?
It is designed for lending, risk, legal and recovery professionals in banks, development finance institutions and microfinance providers — from relationship managers, credit analysts and underwriters to NPL, collections and legal teams, and credit committee members. It suits practitioners building their credit foundations as well as experienced professionals strengthening frameworks across the lending-to-recovery lifecycle. Agricultural, microfinance and informal-sector lending are covered alongside corporate, SME and retail credit.
Can the masterclass be delivered in-house for our institution?
Yes. Every BIZENIUS programme is available in-house, delivered in English or French and tailored to your institution’s portfolio mix and credit policy. Public sessions run on a rolling calendar, with dates confirmed on request. Fees and quotations are shared on enquiry.
Who teaches this
Practitioners, not presenters.
Led by practitioners who hold, or have held, the seats this programme prepares you for: group treasurers and heads of asset–liability management, chief risk officers, heads of credit and capital management, and former central-bank supervisors who examined the very frameworks they now teach. Between cohorts the same people advise banks on those frameworks, so what you learn is what is being defended in front of boards and regulators today.
What the bench brings
- Credit analysis, underwriting and structuring
- Credit policy design and portfolio diagnostics
- IFRS 9 expected credit loss and PD calibration
- SME and commercial banking credit
- IFRS 9 impairment and expected credit loss models
- Financial-instrument accounting and hedge accounting
Where they have practised
Current and former practitioners — people who hold the seat today alongside those who have held it.
Sectors: Banking & financial services · Technology & fintech · Professional services · Insurance
Regions: Africa · the Middle East · Europe · Asia · the Americas
How they teach
- Live case studies from real institutions
- Worked exercises on realistic bank data
- Regulator-style challenge sessions
- Group problem-solving on realistic institutional cases
- Knowledge checks and a personal action plan
Cohorts are kept small so every exercise is worked on the participants’ own situations — in person or live virtual.
