Le programme
Across the Gulf, leadership is changing hands fast. Founders are passing family businesses to the next generation. Expatriate executives are preparing national successors as Saudisation, Emiratisation and Qatarisation reach the senior floors. Boards appoint chief executives who have never held the role: in Saudi Arabia, 65% of the CEOs appointed by Tadawul’s top 100 companies in 2024 were first-timers, according to Korn Ferry’s 2025 study. Few feel ready: in Boyden’s 2026 GCC survey, only 15% said their succession pipeline was in shape. Most handovers go wrong quietly — a manager promoted a year early, a successor named in a spreadsheet, a specialist leaving with twenty years of judgement. This leadership development and succession planning programme works both sides of the transfer. Senior managers practise leading at the level above their title and prepare their own successor. HR and talent leaders learn to run succession, high-potential development and the leadership pipeline as business decisions the board can test. For senior managers, heads of function and the HR leaders who prepare them, in any industry. In English, in person, in Dubai.
Ce que vous ferez
Qui participe
- Senior managers, directors and heads of function on the path to the executive team
- Executives in their first year in a bigger seat
- Chief HR officers, HR directors and heads of talent, learning and nationalisation
- Next-generation leaders in family groups, and the executives who will work beside them
- National and expatriate executives charged with preparing a successor
- Organisations get most from The Handover by sending a pair: a senior manager and the HR leader responsible for their growth. Cohorts are kept deliberately small, so every seat is a peer’s.
Au programme
Three days on the moment most organisations leave to chance
I.Day one — Taking the bigger seat
- The first ninety days in a larger role: what changes, and where capable people stumble
- Leading former peers, older colleagues and expatriate specialists with authority and without awkwardness
- Decisions at the next level: the numbers, trade-offs and politics a head of function is expected to own
- Presence in the room: briefing an executive committee or a board, and being asked back
- Working session. Managers map the seat above them; HR leaders map the seats their organisation cannot leave empty
II.Day two — Building the bench
- Critical roles: which seats hurt most if they fall empty, and for how long the organisation could cope
- Readiness on evidence: why the nine-box grid flatters, and the assessment that holds when a seat opens tomorrow
- Growing successors faster: stretch roles, rotations, sponsors and coaching that work inside Gulf organisations
- Knowledge that walks out of the door: capturing what senior specialists know before they move on
- Nationalisation at the leadership floor: what Saudisation, Emiratisation and Qatarisation now ask of senior roles, beyond headcount
- Working session. Each participant drafts a successor profile for a real role in their organisation
III.Day three — The handover
- How handovers succeed and fail in the region: founder exits, first-time chief executives and leadership that changes nationality
- Keeping them: why national high-potentials leave, and what holds them when pay, purpose and the government offer compete
- The succession room: a senior leader departs without warning, and the cohort makes the appointment against the clock
- The board conversation: the few measures that show leadership readiness, rather than headcount alone
- Closing session. Managers and HR leaders sit together. Each manager leaves with a personal development and successor plan; each HR leader with a ninety-day succession agenda, agreed in the room
Questions fréquentes
Who should attend The Handover?
Senior managers, directors and heads of function who are heading for the executive team, and the HR, talent and nationalisation leaders responsible for preparing them. It works in full for either group alone, and best when an organisation sends one of each.
Why put senior managers and HR leaders in the same room?
Because succession plans are usually written about people, not with them. When both sides work together for three days, HR hears what really holds a strong manager back, and the manager sees what the organisation needs from them before a seat opens. The plans agreed on the final afternoon are more likely to happen because both people made them.
Is this an Emiratisation or Saudisation compliance programme?
No. Compliance gets the numbers right. The Handover deals with what comes after hiring: preparing national talent for senior roles and for succession. The rules in each GCC state are covered so that everyone understands the targets their organisation is measured against.
How can GCC organisations prepare nationals for senior leadership?
Start with the roles that would hurt most to lose. Judge readiness on evidence rather than tenure. Give each successor a stretch role, a senior sponsor and honest feedback, and review progress every quarter. The same discipline applies under Saudisation (Nitaqat), Emiratisation, Qatarisation, Omanisation, Bahrainisation and Kuwaitisation. The Handover works through each step on participants’ own roles.
What does the programme mean for expatriate executives?
Often they are the ones doing the handing over, and the region’s best leaders are judged on how well they do it. The Handover treats preparing a successor as a mark of senior leadership, and gives expatriate executives the methods to do it well, including passing on knowledge that usually leaves with them.
Which countries and industries is it built for?
All six GCC states — the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman, Bahrain and Kuwait — and any industry: banking, energy, telecoms, healthcare, aviation, real estate, retail, government-related entities and family groups.
Why three days, and how is it different from a leadership course?
A leadership course teaches leadership in general. The Handover is built around one moment, when a seat changes hands, and around the Gulf’s version of it: fast promotion, mixed teams, national targets and family ownership. Three days gives each side of the handover its own day and leaves the third for the two to meet. If your need is recruiting national talent rather than preparing it to lead, see Recruitment & Retention Strategies (Nationalisation).
Is The Handover a leadership development programme or a succession planning course?
Both, on purpose. For the senior manager it is an executive leadership programme in Dubai: the bigger seat, former peers, decisions at the next level and presence before a board. For the HR leader it is succession planning training for the UAE and the wider GCC: critical roles, successor readiness, high-potential development and the leadership pipeline. Talent management, executive development and nationalisation strategy are the same work seen from two seats, which is why the programme puts both in one room.
Is it suitable for first-time managers?
It is built for senior managers, directors and heads of function, and for executives in their first year in a bigger seat, rather than for first-time supervisors. The first-ninety-days material is pitched at the move into senior management and the executive team. For new team leaders and first-line managers, the management development programmes in the catalogue are the better fit.
Where and when does The Handover run, and can it come to Riyadh, Doha or Abu Dhabi?
The open cohort runs in Dubai on 7–9 December 2026, Monday to Wednesday. The in-house edition travels anywhere in the GCC — Riyadh, Jeddah, Abu Dhabi, Doha, Muscat, Manama and Kuwait City — for one organisation’s leadership team and HR function, on dates agreed on enquiry.
Is there an in-house edition?
Yes. A private edition can be built for one organisation’s leadership team and HR function, working on its own critical roles and successor lists in confidence. Dates and venue are agreed on enquiry.
How does admission work, and what is included?
Admission is by application, and every application is read by a person. Fees and group terms are sent in the reply, before you commit to anything. The fee covers the programme and a BIZENIUS certificate of completion listing every topic covered. Accommodation at the venue hotel can be arranged on request and is charged separately.

Sous l’étage de direction, la formation professionnelle s’organise par matière.
